A new opportunity has arisen for an experienced external auditor to join a public sector organisation, providing additional capacity to support the permanent audit team during a particularly busy period.
Working to high professional standards, the role will involve delivering financial audits across a range of public sector bodies. You will ensure compliance with International Standards on Auditing (ISA) and internal audit methodologies, alongside the accurate documentation of audit evidence and completion of working papers in line with ISA 230. The work will include reviewing financial statements and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness, identifying issues, proposing practical solutions, and escalating findings to senior members of the audit team as appropriate. You will also contribute to overall audit quality by adhering to technical guidance and quality standards, as well as attending meetings and liaising with a range of stakeholders.
You will be a qualified auditor, holding ACA, ACCA or an equivalent qualification, with recent and demonstrable experience in external audit. Exposure to public sector audit is desirable but not essential. You will bring a strong understanding of auditing standards and financial reporting frameworks, including experience of IFRS and International Standards on Auditing. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data, identify anomalies and assess potential risks. Strong communication and collaboration skills will be essential, enabling you to build effective internal and external working relationships.
This role is expected to be busy from the outset, but consequently offers a highly rewarding opportunity and a chance to further strengthen your CV. The position is offered on a hybrid basis, with on-site attendance required three days per week.
