Allen Lane is working with a forward-thinking Local Authority seeking an experienced Highways Lawyer to join their team on an initial 6+ month interim contract, with a strong likelihood of extension. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile development and regeneration projects, advising on complex highways and transportation matters within a supportive and collaborative legal team.
Key details:
- £85.48 per hour (Inside IR35) or PAYE: £65 per hour
- Hybrid working (1-2 days per week in the office)

The role:
You will provide expert legal advice across a broad range of highways matters, including:
- Advising on the Highways Act 1980 and related legislation
- Drafting and negotiating agreements (S38, S278, S50 and more)
- Supporting major development and regeneration schemes
- Advising on Traffic Regulation Orders, public rights of way, and highway adoption
- Supporting flood risk and drainage matters, including SuDS and LLFA responsibilities
- Providing governance and public law advice and supporting decision-making processes
About you:
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive
- Minimum 2 years’ PQE with experience in highways law or related public law areas
- Proven experience supporting development and regeneration projects
- Strong understanding of the interaction between highways, planning, and infrastructure delivery
- Collaborative, resilient, and confident communicating in a public sector environment
