About the Role
The role of Project Supervisor or Trainee Project Supervisor at Allen Archaeology involves leading and supporting teams of experienced archaeologists and trainees across a diverse range of projects. You will be primarily based from our offices in Lincoln or Preston, with opportunities to work across a variety of sites. This is a permanent position available for immediate start, subject to a three‑month probation period (with a structured training plan for trainee applicants). The position provides an excellent opportunity to build or advance your career within a busy, growing organisation. Grading and Salary
The salary range is £30,237.65 – £36,179.43 per annum, dependent on experience.
- Grade 2.1 – Trainee Project Supervisor: £30,237.65 per annum.
- Grade 2.2 – Project Supervisor: £32,746.55 per annum.
- Grade 3.1 – 3.2 – Project Officer/Trainee Project Officer: £34,299.98 – £36,179.43 per annum.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support fieldwork and post‑excavation teams.
- Prepare and manage grey literature reports.
- Provide training, instruction, and constructive feedback to staff and trainees.
- Communicate professionally with contractors, clients, and colleagues.
- Manage time and meet deadlines.
Essential Qualifications
- Sound knowledge and understanding of British archaeology of all periods.
- Experience of post‑excavation analysis and reporting (desirable for trainees).
- Enthusiasm and strong ability in archaeological field practices.
- Willingness to work independently or lead a team.
- Courteous and professional manner.
- Excellent computer literacy.
- Experience supervising staff (desirable for trainees).
- Attention to detail.
- Positive outlook.
- Valid driving licence.
Desirable Skills
- Relevant archaeological qualification.
- Experience of GIS packages such as QGIS3.
