We are on an audacious journey to impact the health of 2.5 billion people over the next decade. Our R&D division is at the forefront of this mission, dedicated to the discovery and development of groundbreaking vaccines and medicines. We are transforming the landscape of medical research by integrating cutting‑edge science and technology and harnessing the power of genetics and new data. By fostering a collaborative environment that unites the talents of our people, we are revolutionizing R&D to pre‑empt and defeat diseases. Join us in our commitment to uniting science, technology, and talent to get ahead of disease together.
Role Overview: Part of R&D, Large Molecule Research is accountable for the discovery of antibodies and other protein‑based therapeutics from the initial discovery, expression and characterisation to molecular engineering and biophysical profiling. Within Large Molecule Research, the Molecular Design and Engineering (MDE) group is responsible for antibody engineering and developability profiling to improve molecule quality and transform discovered leads into potential therapeutics before candidate selection. We are seeking an Analytical Scientist to join the developability team within MDE. The role will be lab‑centric and will involve profiling/characterising a panel of biopharmaceuticals based on their biophysical properties, interpreting the data and conveying the outcomes to early project teams. The successful candidate will have experience with one or more of the biophysical techniques such as Dynamic light scattering, analytical size exclusion, differential scanning fluorimetry etc. and ideally have applied these to characterise the stability and/or structure of proteins. Although predominantly lab based the role will also require effective communication (both written and oral), organisational, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, and execute experiments to characterise proteins using biophysical methods, such as SEC, DLS and DSF.
- Communicate experimental outcomes to non‑experts on multi‑disciplinary project teams.
- Keep high quality electronic lab notebooks.
Minimum Requirements: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- PhD or equivalent academic/industry experience in biophysics or related discipline.
- Demonstrated, hands‑on experience characterising proteins using one of more of the following biophysical techniques: Dynamic Light Scattering, Analytical Size Exclusion or other chromatography based methods, Differential scanning fluorimetry, mass spectrometry etc.
- Good analytical and data interpretation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in working with automated liquid handlers.
- Familiarity with antibody drug discovery processes.
- Experience characterising protein‑protein interactions using surface plasmon resonance.
