Role Overview

This role provides efficient and effective control of work services across projects, operational activities, and small works within the BP portfolio. The position is primarily site-based, with potential support across additional sites in London based on operational needs. You will play a key role in coordinating, planning, and monitoring subcontractor activities, ensuring safety, quality, and timely completion of all work while adhering to client requirements. This is a high-level electrical bias technician role focused on maintaining LV systems within a critical environment, with training provided on site-specific systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, plan, and monitor subcontractor works, ensuring compliance with Control of Work procedures
  • Ensure safe execution, quality delivery, and timely completion of all assigned work
  • Supervise contractors, including out-of-hours activities where required
  • Perform maintenance, fault finding, and repairs on LV and ELV systems
  • Isolate plant systems and manage system operations, including pumps and controls
  • Monitor and diagnose power quality issues (e.g., harmonic distortion)
  • Install and maintain plant, equipment, and system upgrades
  • Manage spare parts and define timescales for remedial work
  • Respond to breakdowns within SLA timelines and complete maintenance independently
  • Conduct site surveys and prepare work requests, risk assessments, and method statements
  • Complete PPM and reactive maintenance within SLAs
  • Maintain engineering documentation to industry standards
  • Liaise with client representatives regarding maintenance and repairs
  • Supervise and manage contractor performance for maintenance and remedial works
  • Issue and manage permits-to-work and isolation procedures
  • Monitor environmental and equipment conditions
  • Prepare incident reports including root cause analysis within 24 hours
  • Support emergency response and business continuity planning
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety and permit-to-work systems
  • Maintain L8 compliance and water treatment systems
  • Provide fault finding on motors, VFDs, soft starters, and control systems
  • Work with BMS systems for operation and fault diagnosis
  • Maintain HVAC systems including VAV, FCU, chilled water systems, and chilled beams
  • Support modular UPS systems, power distribution, and switching programs
  • Maintain DALI lighting systems including updates and addressing
  • Communicate issues with stakeholders and advise on system improvements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and best practice initiatives
  • Willingness to work beyond contracted hours when required

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of building services (Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC)
  • Experience working with LV systems and electrical switching
  • Good understanding of facilities management and HVAC systems
  • Proven HSE knowledge with ability to implement policies and legislation
  • Experience in contractor management and supervision
  • Strong IT skills (MS Office, digital systems, permit tools)
  • Ability to read technical drawings and troubleshoot systems
  • Experience with BMS controls and HVAC systems
  • Knowledge of pumps, PRVs, tanks, and associated systems
  • Experience with PLC wiring, inverters, and ELV systems
  • Understanding of electrical wiring regulations
  • Experience working with UPS, standby power, and critical cooling systems
  • Knowledge of life safety systems (fire alarms, suppression, sprinklers)
  • Familiarity with utilities monitoring and environmental programs
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving ability
  • Experience working in critical environments (data centers, trading floors, etc.)
  • Ability to manage permits, isolations, and compliance processes
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures

Qualifications

  • Recognized electrical apprenticeship (essential)
  • City & Guilds or equivalent electrical/engineering qualification
  • Minimum Level 2 qualification (Level 3 preferred for isolations)
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in a critical environment
  • BMS and HVAC experience required
  • SMSTS / IOSH / NEBOSH (desirable)
  • Ideally current or previous Authorized Person (AP15/12 or similar)
  • Water hygiene (L8) knowledge preferred
