We are looking for a skilled Data Platform Engineer to build and operate high‑performing, cloud‑native data platforms that deliver reusable components, integrations, and services for our research scientists. You will own end‑to‑end platform delivery, mentor junior engineers, and drive quality and agility in every phase of the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Build a next‑generation, metadata‐ and automation‑driven data experience for GSK’s scientists, engineers, and decision‑makers, enhancing productivity and reducing time spent on data mechanics.
- Provide best‑in‑class AI/ML and data analysis environments to accelerate predictive capabilities.
- Engineer data at scale as a unified asset, unlocking the value of GSK’s unique collections in real‑time.
- Automate end‑to‑end data flows for high‑throughput genetics, genomics, and multi‑omics, improving ingestion speed and reliability.
- Enable data governance by designing external and internal data controls, ensuring secure and monitored use.
- Develop disease‑specific and domain‑expert data products that accelerate insight discovery for computational scientists.
- Support end‑to‑end code traceability and data provenance, increasing assurance of data integrity through automation and integration.
- Improve engineering efficiency with extensible, reusable, scalable, and maintainable data and code traceability frameworks.
Core Skills & Requirements
- Proficiency in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services such as Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Storage, Artifact Registry, IAM, and related infrastructure.
- Strong Python development skills for scripting, automation, and tooling around pipeline infrastructure.
- Hands‑on experience building and optimizing Docker containers, including multi‑stage builds, image optimization, and container security best practices.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines for automated container builds and deployments.
- Expertise in debugging and observability: structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics collection, and use of tools such as Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring, or equivalent.
- Experience diagnosing performance and reliability issues in containerised, cloud‑native environments.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with Nextflow for workflow orchestration.
- Exposure to bioinformatics, genomics data, cell imaging, and histopathology imaging processing workflows.
- Experience with GCP Batch for running large‑scale computational workloads.
