We are seeking an experienced, highly capable Finance Director to join a high-performing, entrepreneurial small-team environment. This is a hands-on senior finance role suited to someone who is comfortable operating with significant autonomy, managing complexity, and working through a lean, outsourced operating model.

The Finance Director will oversee financial management, statutory reporting, tax, compliance, payroll, fund accounting support, and operational finance across the management company, European offices, UK holding companies, and related structures. This role requires someone who can move confidently between strategic finance, technical accounting, detailed Excel modelling, external adviser management, and day-to-day execution. A small amount of international travel is also expected.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Management Company Finance
    • Prepare and oversee monthly management accounts.
    • Manage statutory filings and ensure all reporting deadlines are met.
    • Lead the preparation of annual accounts.
    • Coordinate and manage the annual audit process.
    • Oversee payment processes, approvals, and financial controls.
    • Manage payroll and LLP drawings, including pensions, HMRC obligations, and related compliance.
    • Maintain a clear, accurate financial picture for senior management and partners.
  • Tax and Compliance
    • Support tax structuring for the management company and related entities.
    • Ensure ongoing compliance requirements are met for the management company.
    • Oversee FCA (Appointed Representative) compliance matters in coordination with internal and external advisers.
    • Support HR-related matters where finance, payroll, or compliance overlap.
    • Manage relationships with tax, legal, compliance, audit, payroll, and accounting advisers.
  • Fund Accounting and Investment-Related Finance (Support role)
    • Support fund accounting processes, reporting, and reconciliations.
    • Work with external fund administrators, accountants, and advisers.
    • Review fund-level reporting and ensure accuracy of financial information.
    • Support capital account, fee, carry, and investor reporting processes where required.
    • Assist with financial modelling related to fund economics, management company planning, and scenario analysis.
  • Systems, Controls, and Operations
    • Operate effectively within a lean outsourced finance model.
    • Ensure external providers are properly briefed, managed, challenged, and held accountable.
    • Improve financial systems, reporting processes, and internal controls.
    • Lead or support the implementation of new finance systems and process improvements.
    • Manage insurance, KYC, and related administrative or compliance requirements.
    • Oversee finance and compliance matters for UK holding companies.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a commercially minded, technically strong finance professional who thrives in a fast-moving, high-standard small team. They will be equally comfortable reviewing statutory accounts, challenging outsourced providers, building Excel models, managing compliance deadlines, and giving clear financial insight to senior stakeholders. This is not a role for someone who wants a large internal finance department around them. It is best suited to someone resourceful, detail-oriented, and confident operating with a lean team and a strong network of external advisers.

Required Experience
  • Qualified accountant.
  • Experience in investment management, private equity, venture capital, or asset management.
  • Strong understanding of management company accounting is essential. Fund accounting exposure is beneficial.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing management accounts and annual accounts.
  • Experience managing audits, statutory filings, and tax compliance processes.
  • Experience working with outsourced finance, accounting, payroll, tax, audit, fund administration, legal, and compliance providers.
  • Strong Excel modelling skills, including budgeting, forecasting, scenario analysis, and management reporting.
  • Implementation of new systems and processes.
Key Skills and Attributes
  • High attention to detail and strong technical accounting judgement.
  • Confident Excel modeller with the ability to build clear, practical, decision-useful models.
  • Curious about emerging technologies and how to apply them to drive efficiencies and improvements.
  • Comfortable working in a lean, outsourced operating model.
  • Strong ability to manage external advisers and service providers.
  • Hands-on, pragmatic, and execution-focused.
  • Able to operate independently without large internal support structures.
  • Strong communication skills with senior stakeholders.
  • Calm under pressure and able to manage multiple deadlines across jurisdictions and entities.
  • High standards, low ego, and strong team orientation.
Reporting Line

This role will report to the CFO and work closely with senior management, partners, external accountants, fund administrators, auditors, tax advisers, legal advisers, and compliance providers.
