Allan Water Homes is seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to strengthen its existing finance team to oversee all aspects of financial control, reporting and decision support. Reporting to the Financial Director, this is a hands-on, technically focused role that provides both robust financial management, budgeting and cash management processes, and partners closely with senior management to support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial information, including the creation, maintenance, and analysis of spreadsheets and financial records
- Prepare statutory financial statements for multiple entities, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and legal requirements
- Manage short-term and long-term cash flow, payroll processing (including pensions), and oversee HMRC submissions such as VAT returns, payroll returns, CIS, and P11D reporting
- Oversee accounts receivable and payable ledgers, including supplier payments, invoicing, and bank reconciliations
- Produce monthly and quarterly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, forecasts, and performance reports
- Support with budgeting, financial planning, and provide analysis on business performance, cost reduction, profitability, and growth opportunities
- Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including auditors, banks, solicitors, and regulatory bodies
- Ensure compliance with statutory obligations, including Companies House filings, HMRC returns, and audit preparation
- Assist with external audits and continuously improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting systems
- Provide financial insight to support operational teams, including project cost reporting and subcontractor payments
- Monitor market trends, identify financial risks, and contribute to strategic decision-making and business planning
- Lead on periodic financial tasks such as VAT submissions, insurance renewals, and annual reporting requirements
- Extensive liaison with the Commercial Director and Managing Director, providing financial insight to support pricing strategies, profitability, and long-term growth
Experience & Qualifications:
- CCAB qualified with relevant post-qualification experience in a similar role
- Experience with technical accounting
- Previous experience of working within the property or construction sector or experience of dealing with long-term contracts
- A blend of technical financial reporting experience and sound commercial acumen
- Familiarity with Sage and advanced Excel skills
