We are looking for a visionary Executive Producer to lead teams producing original, high quality longform digital and TV documentaries and investigations.

CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent, Full-time

DEPARTMENT: World Service Eye Investigations, BBC News

LOCATION: London

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to £105,000 (plus London weighting) depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

With a track record as a dynamic, creative editorial leader, you will have a highly developed knowledge of investigative and forensics journalism with experience of overseeing a range of different approaches including OSINT, data journalism, FOI and undercover reporting. You will have a wide range of contacts, deep experience of long and short form filmmaking, and ideas for increasing impact for the team's journalism on audio and social platforms.

The Executive Producer will lead and manage a team of series producers and journalists to commission and develop content and will work closely with World Service teams and freelancers, ensuring they are carried out safely, on budget, and in line with the BBC's editorial compliance standards.

World Service Investigations is a team producing original investigations and long form journalism, mainly under the Eye Investigations strand. The teams of Executive Producers, Series Producers, OSINT analysts, producers and researchers work with teams around the world to produce pioneering investigations, including long form documentaries, about various topics. We undertake projects that only the BBC World Service can deliver.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

  • Commission and deliver distinctive, significant investigations, which achieve high levels of impact and engagement with our target audiences.
  • Guide our investigative journalists from the development of ideas, through the creative process of gathering material, to the editing and delivery of outstanding content.
  • Contribute new lines to big, moving stories.
  • Develop collaborative relationships within the BBC, and with external partners, very occasionally including engaging independent production companies.
  • Provide vision, strategic direction, and confident leadership by setting challenging objectives, and provide regular and clear feedback to teams.
  • Work collaboratively with all relevant areas of BBC News to nurture talent, widen investigative expertise across the division, and ensure content reaches the highest level of impact and reach.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • A track record of overseeing long form investigations across multiple platforms, and an appetite to innovate with formats.
  • Proven experience in leading teams in complex investigations, and a wide network of contacts among experts in the field.
  • Demonstrable experience of commissioning and managing long form, digital first investigative documentaries.
  • Substantial experience of different investigative approaches including OSINT, undercover reporting, whistle-blower relationships.
  • Outstanding experience in leading teams located in different parts of the world, especially in hostile environments.
  • Superb knowledge of BBC's procedures for managing legal and high-risk challenges, including undercover productions.
  • Experience of managing programme budgets, financial planning and achieving efficiencies.
  • Proven experience in managing high level stakeholders, both inside and outside the BBC.

DESIRABLE

  • Specific experience, including ideally language expertise, of overseeing investigations in priority parts of the world for World Service.
