We are looking for a Lead Presenter to present news programmes and trending, interacting with digital and modern production tools.

CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent, Full-time

LOCATION: London

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £60,000 to £70,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences. It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of 319 million globally, including TV, digital platforms including social media, AM, FM, shortwave, digital satellite and cable channels. BBC Arabic reaches a weekly audience of approximately 44 million across platforms and provides one quarter of output across the entire World Service.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

  • Being on air more than 80% of the time, you may be the sole presenter at times or work with a co-presenter, presenting live news or current affairs-led programmes, react on air to breaking stories, introduce live events and preparing material and carrying out live interviews.
  • Have a developed presentation style that is fluent, engages the viewer or listener, adapting style for different subjects and audiences; broadcasting in a manner which is engaging, entertaining and readily understandable by a non-specialist audience, making complex issues accessible.
  • Generate ideas and stories; contributes to the creative treatment and production of an item or programme; provide clear treatments and proposals whilst ensuring consistency of content, quality and style.
  • Take journalistic accountability for content that you are involved in researching, producing or writing.
  • Make the best use of new technologies, in particular developments in social media.
  • Acts as an ambassador for the BBC to the audience concerned, being comfortable with policy makers, high profile people, and audiences.
  • Liaise closely with other team members and with other departments in the BBC, to ensure that output material is distributed, duplication is avoided, and best practice is upheld.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • An experienced and principled presenter with an engaging on-air presence, natural delivery and strong connection with the camera.
  • Able to dynamically and naturally interact with the video wall and script.
  • Master of Arabic language grammar & delivery at the highest standards, including non-scripted.
  • Deep understanding of social media and ability to maintain a strong presence on digital platforms.
  • Strong editorial background covering the Middle East and the world.

DESIRABLE

  • Adherence to BBC Arabic’s Style Guide and audience requirements.
  • Full knowledge of BBC editorial guidelines.
