All Ways Network exists to strengthen small and grassroots charities, particularly those working with underserved communities including Muslim communities, so they can access funding, build capacity, and deliver lasting impact. We are putting a new commissioning model in place for bid-writing support and are building a small, trusted pool of experienced freelance bid writers who we can commission on a repeat basis for clearly scoped pieces of work. This is not an employed role. We are interested in forming ongoing professional relationships with a small number of freelancers, rather than building a large pool.

The work we expect to commission includes:

  • Expressions of Interest and concept notes
  • Bid reviews
  • Standard grant applications (typically £10k–£50k)
  • Occasional larger or more strategic bids (e.g. Lottery, statutory, multi-year funding)

AWN retains responsibility for triage, scoping, client readiness, and quality assurance. Freelancers are commissioned to deliver defined pieces of drafting or review work against agreed briefs.

This is likely to suit someone who:

  • has several years' experience writing successful charity or social-impact funding applications
  • is confident working independently to agreed scopes and deadlines
  • values repeat, relationship-based freelance work over one-off jobs
  • is interested in supporting smaller organisations that often lack in-house fundraising capacity

A note on rates and how we work: Because AWN's work is charitable and much of this support is heavily subsidised for smaller organisations, our commissioning rates sit below commercial consultancy pricing. Fees are agreed in advance per piece of work, based on scope and complexity. In return, we aim to offer a professional commissioning environment: realistic scoping, clear briefs, senior-level decision-making, and reliable.
