A fantastic lifestyle hotel in the heart of York is looking for a Deputy General Manager to work closely with the GM to lead the operation. This is one of the largest and best-known properties in the city with 150 bedrooms, a full-service brasserie, a rooftop restaurant and bar that trades as a destination in its own right, a spa, and a meetings and events operation with capacity for 180. Sitting within a national boutique hotel group operating multiple properties across the UK.

The Role

  • Reporting directly to the General Manager and deputising in their absence with full operational authority.
  • Day-to-day operational leadership across rooms, food and beverage, spa and events, leading a team of five heads of department and a total team of 120.
  • Commercial ownership alongside the General Manager P&L, payroll and rota management, cost of sales, forecasting and delivery of budgeted GOP.
  • Driving guest satisfaction and reputation scores across bedrooms and both food and beverage outlets.
  • Recruitment, retention, training and succession across the management team.
  • Compliance ownership: health and safety, food safety, licensing and brand audit.
  • Commercial input into the hotel's sales and marketing plan alongside the cluster sales function and central revenue team.
  • Particular focus on the rooftop operation maintaining its market position and growing non-resident covers and spend.

About You

  • Currently operating as a Deputy/Assistant General Manager, Hotel Manager or Operations Manager within a 100+ bedroom hotel, or a strong head of department ready to step up.
  • Background in quality hotel operations.
  • Demonstrable food and beverage experience; exposure to a destination restaurant or bar is a bonus.
  • Full P&L exposure, with evidence of delivering against GOP.
  • Proven leadership of a multi-department management team.
  • Visible, floor-based leadership style, comfortable running a high-volume operation from the front.
  • Commercially aware, with a clear understanding of how to convert local demand into rate.
  • Clear ambition for continued growth and self-development.

Package

  • Salary up to £52,000.
  • KPI-linked bonus scheme.
  • Relocation support.

  • 45 hours per week, five days over seven, with scope to shape your own rota around the needs of the business.
