Job Title: Automation QA Tester Duration: 12 months Type: Contract - Inside IR35 Hybrid Working - 2-3 days per week onsite Job Description As an Automation QA Tester, you will be part of the Clinical Trials Platform team, based in Wrexham. You will collaborate directly with developers and manual testers, contributing to the platform that supports patient-facing clinical trial applications worldwide. Your role will involve building and maintaining end-to-end regression suite and expanding automation coverage. Responsibilities
Design, write, and maintain automated test scripts using WebdriverIO (JavaScript).
Develop and execute both web and mobile automation using cloud-based cross-browser/cross-device testing (BrowserStack) and physical devices.
Build and sustain our end-to-end regression suite to cover core product workflows.
Collaborate with the test lead to determine what should be automated versus manual based on risk, stability, and repeat-test value.
Integrate automated test results and evidence into Jira/Xray tooling and reporting.
Maintain and refactor existing automated suites to ensure stability and resilience to UI changes.
Support manual test execution during high-demand periods, such as release cycles.
Work across our multi-environment landscape, including a dedicated environment for automated regression.
Collaborate daily with the Wrexham-based development team and the wider distributed testing team, including overseas colleagues.
Essential Skills
Hands-on experience writing test automation using WebdriverIO or similar JavaScript-based automation framework.
experience with both web and mobile automation.
Practical experience with BrowserStack or a comparable cloud device testing platform.
Strong manual testing skills and experience.
Understanding of test automation strategies and maintaining suite sustainability.
Proficiency with Jira and ideally Xray for test management and reporting.
Strong debugging skills to differentiate genuine defects from flaky tests or environment issues.
Collaborative, team-first attitude with the ability to work closely with manual testers, other automation engineers, and developers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
experience in a regulated industry such as pharma, medical devices, healthcare, or financial services.
Familiarity with software quality/compliance standards.
experience testing healthcare, medical, or clinical software.
experience with Node.js scripting and mobile automation tooling.
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for automated test execution.
