Are you an experienced EHS professional looking for an opportunity to make a real impact within a busy manufacturing environment? We are currently recruiting for an EHS Officer to join a well-established manufacturing business based in Workington. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with practical Health, Safety and Environmental experience who enjoys working across a site, engaging with people at all levels and driving continuous improvement.
The Role
- Working closely with the EHS Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving Health, Safety and Environmental standards across the site.
- You will work closely with production, engineering, operations and management teams, providing practical EHS support, guidance and coaching while helping to develop a strong and proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of EHS training and awareness programmes.
- Coach and mentor managers, supervisors and employees on EHS standards and best practice.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of the site's safety culture.
- Assist with internal and external audit programmes and ensure appropriate actions are followed through.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of EHS systems and processes within the site's Integrated Management System.
- Assist with regulatory and environmental compliance activities.
- Support the delivery and reporting of site EHS KPIs.
- Contribute to behavioural safety initiatives and continuous improvement programmes.
- Support the EHS Manager with site projects, change management and machinery/investment reviews.
- Work collaboratively with production teams, safety representatives and other departments to identify and address EHS issues.
- Provide advice and support across the business regarding Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental matters.
- Assist with EHS reporting, administration and environmental reporting requirements.
- Support the delivery of the site's strategic safety plan.
About You
We are looking for an EHS professional who is confident working in a manufacturing environment and is able to build effective relationships across all levels of an organisation. You will ideally have:
- Practical experience within Health, Safety and Environmental.
- Experience working within a manufacturing, FMCG or similarly regulated environment.
- Good knowledge of EHS legislation, systems and processes.
- Experience supporting audits and compliance activities.
- Experience delivering or supporting EHS training and awareness programmes.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- The ability to influence and engage employees, managers and supervisors.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Good IT skills and confidence working with EHS reporting and documentation.
- A NEBOSH Occupational Health & Safety Diploma and/or NEBOSH Environmental Certificate would be advantageous, although these are not essential.
