A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Shift Maintenance Engineer to join an established, family-owned food manufacturing business in Whitby, North Yorkshire.
The business is looking for a genuinely multiskilled engineer to maintain a wide range of production and site equipment. Electrical fault-finding is important, but the company is also open to strong mechanically biased engineers with good electrical knowledge who are keen to develop further.
With a £49,474 basic salary, regular overtime opportunities and a supportive engineering team, this is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking for a long-term role with a successful manufacturing business.

Shift Pattern

The role operates on a rotating 8-hour shift pattern:
06:00-14:00, Monday to Friday

14:00-22:00, Sunday to Thursday

22:00-06:00, Sunday to Thursday

Weekend overtime is approximately 1 weekend in 5, with additional overtime available.

The Role

This is a hands-on engineering position where you'll be responsible for maintaining a wide range of production and site equipment.
Your duties will include:
Carrying out planned preventative maintenance

Responding to and resolving equipment breakdowns

Electrical and mechanical fault-finding

Working with electrical systems up to 415V

Fault-finding on three-phase electrical systems

Mechanical maintenance across pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings, gearboxes and drive systems

Carrying out installations and improvement work

Supporting project and engineering improvement activities

Prioritising a varied workload across planned maintenance, breakdowns and project work

Working independently and as part of a small engineering team

Helping to maintain safe, reliable and efficient production equipment

What We're Looking For

We're interested in engineers from a range of backgrounds, provided you have a solid multiskilled maintenance foundation and some electrical capability.
You should have:
Experience maintaining and fault-finding industrial production equipment

Good electrical fault-finding ability

Experience working with electrical systems up to 415V

Knowledge of three-phase electrical systems

Strong mechanical maintenance experience

Experience with equipment such as pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings, gearboxes and drive systems

The ability to work independently and as part of a small engineering team

Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills

Strong planning and organisational ability

A flexible and practical approach to engineering

Food manufacturing or FMCG experience would be advantageous, but is not essential.

Qualifications

Ideally, you'll be apprentice-trained or hold a relevant engineering qualification.
The following would also be advantageous:
18th Edition

City & Guilds 2391 / inspection and testing

Evidence of continued professional and technical development

Training can be provided where appropriate.
