FM Conway is currently seeking a Plant Operative to join our Aggregate and Asphalt division, playing a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our asphalt manufacturing sites. This is a varied, hands-on position where no two days are the same, giving you the opportunity to operate the asphalt plant, mobile plant machinery and manage weighbridge activities to help keep the site running safely and efficiently. This is a full-time, permanent role based at our brand new Wellingborough site.

With over 15 years' experience producing high-quality asphalt, FM Conway operates seven successful asphalt plants across the South of England and is now expanding into the Midlands with our eighth site in Wellingborough. The successful Plant Supervisor will join a brand-new team and will be crucial to setting up the new plant, helping to establish high standards, site performance and operational success from the very beginning.

Joining ahead of the plant opening in 2027, you will initially work across our existing Southeast sites, receiving full training and structured induction support to understand our operations and systems. By the time the new plant opens, you will be fully prepared to supervise from day one and play an important role in establishing a successful new production site.

The duties of the Plant Operative will include:

  • Operating the asphalt plant safely and efficiently to maximise production and performance
  • Managing all weighbridge activities, including processing deliveries, using the company order system and coordinating vehicle movements
  • Operating loading shovels and other mobile plant, including telehandlers and skid steers, as required
  • Carrying out daily inspections and basic maintenance of plant and equipment, reporting any defects promptly
  • Maintaining accurate production, weighbridge and plant operation records
  • Supporting stock management and material handling across the site
  • Completing routine housekeeping duties to ensure the site remains clean, safe and well organised
  • Following all company health, safety and environmental procedures at all times

We're looking for a reliable and motivated team player who enjoys working in a hands-on environment and takes pride in delivering work safely and efficiently. You will have good communication skills, be comfortable using computer-based systems and have a flexible approach to supporting different areas of the operation. A full UK driving licence is essential, while previous experience in a similar operational, manufacturing, quarrying or asphalt environment, or experience operating mobile plant, would be advantageous. Full training will be provided for the right candidate.

As our Plant Operative, we offer a range of fantastic benefits including career and professional development, 23 days holiday plus bank holidays, life assurance, enhanced maternity pay, opportunities for internal and external training, and access to a wide range of shopping discounts through our Rewarding Great People platform. We also provide a range of health and wellbeing benefits including 24-hour advice lines and support from our in-house mental health first aiders.

FM Conway is an award-winning equal opportunities employer. We recognise that our workforce should reflect our diverse communities and we are proudly committed to creating an inclusive culture in which we celebrate and value individuals from all walks of life. At our heart we are a business that recognises and embraces individuality, so if you are excited about this role but you are unsure if you meet all of the criteria, we encourage you to apply anyway as you may still be the right candidate for this or another role we are recruiting for.

We look forward to receiving your application!
