We are seeking a talented and motivated Test Engineer to join a highly skilled Power Electronics testing team within a state-of-the-art engineering and research environment. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the testing and validation of inverters, electric machines, and power electronic systems, supporting the development of next-generation electrified propulsion technologies.
Working alongside experienced engineers, technicians, university partners, and external engineering organisations, you will be responsible for preparing and executing test programmes, operating advanced test facilities, analysing data, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality engineering results. This role offers the chance to work on cutting-edge technology in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a thorough understanding of customer test objectives and requirements, preparing and executing test programmes to generate high-quality, standards-compliant data.
- Operate and manage advanced dynamometer and test facilities, ensuring safe, efficient, and effective utilisation.
- Configure and support a wide range of test methodologies in line with facility capabilities and instrumentation requirements.
- Analyse test data to identify root causes, recommend engineering solutions, and support the progression of test activities.
- Conduct diagnostics using software-based analysis tools and coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues.
- Plan, schedule, and execute multiple test programmes while managing varying stakeholder requirements.
- Coordinate and support technicians with the preparation, installation, and commissioning of units under test.
- Contribute to technical reviews, continuous improvement initiatives, and facility development projects.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, operational procedures, and health and safety requirements.
- Develop, review, and maintain risk assessments, operating procedures, and technical documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
- Promote engineering excellence through adherence to 5S and engineering hygiene principles.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Fundamental knowledge of power electronics, inverters, and electric machine operation.
- Experience within a rig, laboratory, or test environment involving power electronic systems.
- Understanding of test methodologies, data acquisition systems, and facility operations.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and electronic circuits and technical drawings.
- Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical measurement techniques.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach.
- Experience using data analysis and engineering software tools.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
- Understanding of health and safety legislation, risk assessments, and safe working practices.
- Self-motivated, flexible, and capable of working effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable
- Degree qualification in Electrical, Automotive, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience using AVL PUMA, ETAS INCA, or Vector CAN systems.
- Knowledge of powertrain systems, hybrid vehicles, or battery electric vehicles.
- Awareness of high-voltage systems and associated safety requirements.
- Advanced understanding of electrical and mechanical measurement techniques.
