We are currently seeking an experienced Paint Sprayer to join the Manufacturing Operations team at Gaydon. This is an outstanding opportunity to work on prestigious programmes including the Aston Martin Sports Car range, contributing directly to the creation of world-class vehicles finished to the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.

The Role

As a Paint Sprayer, you will play a critical role within the Paint Strategy and Operations team, ensuring every vehicle achieves the exceptional finish expected of the Aston Martin name. You will be responsible for preparing and painting vehicle bodies and components while maintaining the highest levels of quality, safety and productivity.

You will inspect vehicles for defects prior to paint application, carry out detailed surface preparation activities and apply basecoat and clearcoat finishes using hand spray techniques. Your expertise will help ensure every vehicle meets the exacting standards required before progressing through the production process.

Working closely with Lead Technicians, Group Leaders and Quality teams, you will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while helping to resolve any issues that could affect vehicle quality or production performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare vehicle bodies and components for paint application using a variety of surface preparation techniques, including adhesion promotion, degreasing and tack-off processes.
  • Inspect vehicle surfaces to identify any defects prior to painting and ensure all preparation work is completed to the highest standards.
  • Apply basecoat and clearcoat finishes using specialist hand spraying techniques while maintaining consistency, accuracy and exceptional quality.
  • Monitor paint finishes throughout the process, identifying and removing contaminants between paint stages and carrying out any necessary rectification work.
  • Maintain spray equipment, hoods and airlines, ensuring all paint shop equipment remains operational and compliant with health and safety requirements.
  • Support other paint operations activities, including vehicle preparation and polishing, in line with production requirements.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for individuals with proven experience in automotive paint application, vehicle refinishing and paint preparation within an automotive manufacturing, bodyshop or vehicle production environment. You will have a strong understanding of vehicle surfaces, contours, paint systems and finishing techniques, together with the ability to consistently deliver exceptional results.

Candidates should possess excellent attention to detail, strong hand-eye coordination and the ability to work effectively under production deadlines while maintaining the highest levels of quality. A methodical approach, problem-solving capability and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential.

Previous experience in positions such as Automotive Paint Sprayer, Vehicle Painter, Paint Technician, Paint Refinisher, Bodyshop Technician, Paint Operative, Vehicle Finisher, Automotive Refinishing Technician, Manufacturing Paint Technician or Spray Painter would be highly advantageous.

Qualifications

Relevant automotive paint and body qualifications are preferred and may include a BTEC Certificate or Diploma in Vehicle Technology, City & Guilds qualifications in Vehicle Body and Paint Operations, IMI qualifications in Vehicle Body and Paint Refinishing or similar recognised automotive certifications. Additional qualifications or experience in automotive production, vehicle repair, paint application technologies or Paint Protection Film (PPF) installation would be beneficial.
