The Role
We are recruiting for an experienced Housing Officer to join a busy Housing Services team in Rugby. This is a varied, customer-focused position responsible for providing a comprehensive housing management service to tenants. You will manage your own workload and work closely with residents, internal teams and external agencies to help sustain tenancies, resolve housing issues and provide a high-quality service. The position involves a combination of office-based work, home visits and estate visits, so candidates must be able to drive and have access to their own vehicle for work purposes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a comprehensive housing management service to tenants
- Manage a range of tenancy and housing management cases
- Conduct home visits, estate visits and property inspections
- Support new tenants during the settling-in period
- Investigate tenancy breaches and take appropriate action
- Manage complaints relating to anti-social behaviour and neighbour disputes
- Prepare witness statements, case notes and evidence for potential legal action
- Process tenancy matters including mutual exchanges, succession and tenancy transfers
- Work with tenants experiencing difficulties to help sustain their tenancies
- Liaise with internal departments, Police, Social Services and other partner agencies
- Assist customers with income and expenditure assessments and refer to specialist services where appropriate
- Maintain accurate housing management records and prepare reports
- Undertake estate and health & safety inspections
- Attend court where required to provide evidence
About You
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- Previous experience within housing, tenancy management or a similar customer-focused environment
- A minimum of 2 years' relevant customer-focused experience
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Confidence dealing with residents face-to-face and over the telephone
- Ability to manage challenging and sensitive situations professionally
- Good investigation and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage your own caseload and prioritise effectively
- Good report writing and record-keeping skills
- An understanding of current housing issues
- Strong IT skills
- A flexible and customer-focused approach
- Experience of social housing, tenancy sustainment, ASB case management or local authority housing would be particularly advantageous.
Essential Driving Requirement
A full current UK driving licence is essential. You must also have access to a car and have, or be able to obtain, business-use motor insurance for work-related travel. A basic DBS check is required.
Pay: £17.18 - £18.85 per hour PAYE, depending on experience. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Housing Officer or housing professional looking for a short-term assignment within a busy housing management environment.
