Bookkeeper CIS & VAT | Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent & Surrounding South Wales | Part Time | £15£19 per hour
Our client is an established construction and maintenance business seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to support the day-to-day financial operations of the business.
This is a specialist bookkeeping position suited to someone with a strong understanding of CIS, VAT and construction-sector bookkeeping, who can work confidently and independently within an SME environment.
The role is part-time, up to 32 hours per week, and will involve a combination of bookkeeping, finance and general administration. You will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, processing subcontractor payments and deductions, managing VAT requirements and supporting the wider finance function.
Please note: This role is based in Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent and the surrounding South Wales areas, with candidates from Ebbw Vale, Merthyr Tydfil, Abergavenny, Caerphilly, Pontypridd, Newport, Monmouthshire and wider South Wales encouraged to apply.
The Role
Are you an experienced Bookkeeper with strong hands-on knowledge of CIS and VAT? Do youhave previous experience working within construction, building, property, facilities, trades or a similar CIS environment?
This is not simply a general bookkeeping position practical experience dealing with construction subcontractors and CIS requirements is particularly important.
You will also be responsible for the preparation of accurate monthly management accounts, alongside wider finance and general administrative duties.
Hybrid and flexible working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day bookkeeping activities for the business
Process purchase and sales ledgers
Complete regular bank reconciliations
Process supplier and subcontractor invoices and payments
Manage CIS subcontractor verification and deductions
Prepare and submit monthly CIS returns
Maintain accurate subcontractor records
Support the preparation and submission of VAT returns
Prepare accurate monthly management accounts
Reconcile supplier and subcontractor accounts
Maintain accurate financial records and ensure transactions are correctly recorded
Assist with month-end processes and financial reporting
Monitor outstanding invoices and support credit control where required
Maintain organised and accurate finance documentation
Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders
Identify discrepancies and resolve bookkeeping queries promptly
Ensure financial records remain accurate, complete and up to date
Provide general finance and administrative support as required
Requirements
Essential
Previous experience working as a Bookkeeper
AAT Level 3 or Level 4 qualification, or equivalent practical experience
Strong hands-on experience with CIS
Experience processing CIS deductions and subcontractor payments
Experience preparing monthly CIS returns
Good working knowledge of VAT and VAT returns
Experience preparing accurate monthly management accounts
Previous experience within construction, building, property, trades or another CIS environment
Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles
Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Good communication and organisational skills
Comfortable working within an SME environment
Experience using accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks or other cloud-based accounting systems

Previous experience working for a construction company or building contractor
Experience managing a high volume of subcontractors
Experience with construction-related VAT
Experience handling supplier and subcontractor reconciliations
Experience supporting month-end accounts
Experience working independently within a small or medium-sized business
