Our client is expanding their commercial team out of their Tonbridge / Maidstone office. They are looking for a Quantity Surveyor who can share in this growth ethos to join their dedicated commercial and operational team, specialising in Painting and Decorating and associated planned refurbishment works to the public, private, residential, and educational sectors. They have been an established and leading property services company for over 75 years, based across England and Wales, in over 18 locations and 32 Business Units.
The main points we are looking for are with reference to:
- CVRs/Valuations
- Live within easy travelling distance of the area
- Dealing with direct labour and timesheets
- Schedules of Rates
- Formal qualifications or surveyor training
- Any exposure to Painting/Decorating
A driven, people-focused and entrepreneurial Quantity Surveyor will join the dedicated commercial and operational team, which specialises in painting, decorating and associated planned refurbishment works in the South London and Kent areas. You'll be working for clients across a variety of sectors including commercial property development, education, and social housing. Painting background isn't essential. Ideally, they are looking for a Quantity Surveyor with experience dealing and working with direct labour teams, time sheets, etc. Any background especially in Painting, brickwork, plastering, roofing, or new builds in terms of QS could work for this role along with tendering, estimating, and refurbishments, but dealing and working with direct teams is a big tick.
£69,530 including car allowance (£6,700) plus fuel card, profit share last year 9%, private health, pension, life insurance, etc. The main customer base will be Social Housing and Council/Local authority, Housing Associations, so you really need to highlight any experience in these sectors or projects you've worked on as this would be beneficial.

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will actively tender, estimate and measure onsite and also liaise with direct labour at the client. We can offer a variety of works including established frameworks and core contracts with prestigious clients within the public and residential sector, as well as our services covering retirement living, commercial, and education sectors too. Specifically, you will:
- Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders, highlighting any commercial risks.
- Prepare cost value reconciliations for contracts, identifying commercial risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning from the outset.
- Work closely with the Contracts Manager to ensure productivity labour targets are agreed and issued before contract start, including direct labour incentives where possible.
- Build strong client and supplier relations, ensuring any variations and progress of contracts are discussed and mutual solutions are sought.
- Complete and analyse weekly reporting from site, ensuring it has adequate cost information (including labour rates and performance expectations, budgets, value, progress, quality, and safety).
You will be inquisitive, organised, and honest, as well as being a genuine people person who thrives when collaborating with clients, trade teams, and immediate colleagues. Fostering a real working together environment, whilst building valued long-term relationships.
Proven experience in a similar estimating and surveying role is required, along with experience of the commercial management of projects from tender and estimation stages through to final account. Experience of successfully managing a value of works up to £3 million annually is essential. An entrepreneurial spirit, with a key eye for identifying business opportunities, and areas for negotiation and better gains is important. You will describe yourself as commercial, analytical, and accurate in your approach.
