Operations Supervisor Waste Collections Take the helm of a high-performing waste collection operation where your leadership directly impacts service delivery, safety, and environmental stewardship.
As our Operations Supervisor, you will be the driving force behind the day-to-day coordination of our waste collection activities on a major £6m contract.
Youll lead by example, managing a dedicated team of drivers, operatives, and sub-contractors to ensure we deliver an efficient, cost-effective service that meets customer expectations and budget goals.
Key Responsibilities Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) Champion safety: Lead from the front by implementing company SHEQ policies, conducting thorough risk assessments, and ensuring safe systems of work.
Protect the environment: Perform environmental aspects and impacts analyses to minimize our footprint and ensure strict adherence to site permits and regulations.
Investigate and train: Oversee accident, incident, and near-miss reporting.
Ensure all staff and sub-contractors are fully trained, competent, and hold the correct licenses and certificates.
Maintain standards: Display statutory notices, manage PPE distribution, and hold team members accountable for their health, safety, and environmental responsibilities.
Operational Excellence & Resource Management Drive performance: Organize effective operational procedures, maintain high standards of discipline, and actively monitor staff performance to address issues swiftly.
Optimize resources: Manage the waste collection fleet, equipment, and personnel efficiently, reviewing working practices to promote cost-effective methods.
Manage scheduling: Oversee work schedules, holiday planning, and cover arrangements for absenteeism and sickness.
Report on progress: Prepare and submit comprehensive daily and weekly management reports, keeping leadership informed of staffing levels, metrics, and site performance.
What You Bring Management Experience: Proven background in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably within waste management, logistics, or a related field.
Industry Knowledge: A thorough understanding of waste management legislation, operational standards, and compliance.
People Skills: Exceptional person-management abilities, with a knack for motivating teams, training personnel, and handling performance management constructively.
Tech Savvy: Computer literate with the ability to manage schedules, reports, and administrative tasks digitally.
Driving Licence: A current, clean driving licence (HGV entitlement is highly desirable).
