This SEMH Mentor opportunity in Swindon is ideal for graduates and aspiring professionals looking to gain meaningful, hands-on experience supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a specialist education setting.
As an SEMH Mentor, you will work closely with pupils who may experience difficulties with emotional regulation, behaviour, confidence, anxiety and engagement in learning. Through consistent guidance, structured mentoring and positive encouragement, you will help young people understand their emotions, develop effective coping strategies and overcome barriers that may be affecting their education and wellbeing.
This SEMH Mentor role is particularly suited to graduates with backgrounds in Psychology, Sociology, Education or related subjects.
The Role
As an SEMH Mentor, you will:
Deliver structured mentoring sessions and targeted interventions based on individual pupil needs.
Provide one-to-one and small-group support to children and young people with SEMH needs.
Build positive, trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe, valued and understood.
Support pupils to recognise and manage emotions, anxiety, frustration and challenging situations.
Help young people develop practical coping strategies, emotional regulation skills and resilience.
Encourage positive behaviour, self-confidence and engagement with learning.
Support pupils in developing appropriate social skills and positive relationships with peers and adults.
Work alongside teachers and pastoral professionals to provide consistent support and monitor pupil progress.
Contribute to a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where every pupil can thrive.
About You
The ideal SEMH Mentor will be patient, empathetic and understanding, with the resilience to remain calm and consistent when supporting young people through challenging situations. You will have a genuine passion for mental health, inclusion and helping children overcome barriers to learning.
You will be a positive role model who can build strong relationships, encourage pupils to recognise their strengths and support them in developing the confidence and skills needed to succeed.
What We Offer
This SEMH Mentor position offers:
£85-£110 per day, depending on experience.
PAYE weekly pay.
Full-time and part-time opportunities starting in September 2026.
