We are recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant with either Swimming Instructor or Lifeguard experience to join a highly supportive specialist school in Sutton Coldfield from September. This unique role combines swimming support and classroom-based Teaching Assistant duties, making it ideal for candidates with a passion for education, inclusion, and supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
SEN Teaching Assistant & Swimming Support Role
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, your mornings will be spent supporting pupils within the school's swimming pool, helping children with physical disabilities access swimming and water-based activities safely and confidently. In the afternoons, you will work as a Teaching Assistant within the classroom, supporting the class teacher and helping pupils achieve their educational and personal development goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Swimming Instructor / Lifeguard Duties
- Support pupils during swimming sessions.
- Promote water safety and confidence in the pool.
- Assist children with physical disabilities during swimming activities.
- Ensure a safe, positive and inclusive environment.
- SEN Teaching Assistant Duties
- Work alongside the class teacher as a Teaching Assistant.
- Support pupils with learning activities and classroom engagement.
- Assist children with Special Educational Needs and physical disabilities.
- Help implement learning and care plans.
- Encourage independence, communication and social development.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Swimming Instructor or Lifeguard.
- Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals.
- Comfortable supporting pupils with physical disabilities.
- A positive, patient and caring approach.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
