Enhanced DBS (required)

We are looking for experienced SEND tutors to support children and young people across Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding areas. This is a face-to-face tutoring role within alternative provision, supporting students who may currently be outside of mainstream education or receiving personalised education through council-funded support, EHCPs, EOTAS, or specialist placements.

We are looking for tutors with strong experience supporting learners with additional needs, including ADHD, autism, SEMH needs, trauma backgrounds, vulnerable children, challenging behaviour, low confidence, or students who require a more structured and individualised learning approach.

The role can vary depending on the student. Some placements may focus on academic support such as English, Maths or Functional Skills, while others may focus more on engagement, behaviour, routine, confidence building, social development, or helping the student access learning again in a safe and supportive way.

About the Role:

Successful applicants will be onboarded onto our systems and considered for suitable tutoring placements as they become available. New roles are usually added weekly or biweekly, and once a tutor is matched with a student, they will normally remain assigned to that child until the end of term or for the agreed placement period.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide face-to-face tutoring and support to SEND learners
  • Adapt lessons and activities around each student's needs and ability
  • Support academic progress, engagement, confidence and behaviour
  • Work with students who may have EHCPs, SEMH needs, trauma backgrounds or complex needs
  • Create a safe, calm and consistent learning environment
  • Complete required session reports after each session
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and professional expectations

We Are Looking For Someone Who Has:

  • Experience supporting SEND, SEMH, alternative provision or vulnerable learners
  • Confidence working with students with ADHD, autism, trauma, behaviour needs or EHCPs
  • A patient, professional and resilient approach
  • Good behaviour management and communication skills
  • Availability for face-to-face work in Stoke-on-Trent and nearby areas
  • A genuine interest in supporting children who may not currently be accessing mainstream education

Desirable Experience:

  • Tutoring, teaching, mentoring, youth work or support work experience
  • Experience delivering English, Maths or Functional Skills
  • Experience in alternative provision, schools, specialist settings or care environments
  • Understanding of safeguarding, reporting and professional boundaries

Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Two professional references
  • Ability to travel to face-to-face placements
  • Reliability and clear communication

Pay: Competitive hourly rate, discussed depending on experience and placement requirements.

How to Apply:

Please apply with your CV and a short summary of your experience working with SEND learners, vulnerable children, tutoring, mentoring, teaching or alternative provision. Suitable applicants may be contacted for a short interview and onboarding discussion.

Application question(s):

  • Would you class yourself as a resilient individual who is not phased by comments made by children?
  • Are you willing to take on your contract with a child until the end of term?
