Working pattern: Hybrid - three days in the Belfast office and two days working from home
We are recruiting an experienced Payroll Officer to join a major industrial and engineering organisation in Belfast. This is a hands-on, end-to-end payroll role supporting the accurate and timely processing of weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls. The position would suit someone who can take ownership of their workload, work accurately to strict deadlines and become productive quickly within a busy payroll environment.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare, process and administer allocated weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls.
- Maintain employee payroll records and process starters, leavers, salary changes and other payroll variations.
- Check time and attendance information and manual timesheet inputs, resolving discrepancies before payroll deadlines.
- Calculate statutory payments, holiday pay, overtime, bonuses, allowances and payroll adjustments.
- Complete RTI submissions and administer workplace pensions and Auto Enrolment requirements.
- Prepare payroll reports, support reconciliations and investigate payroll discrepancies.
- Respond to payroll queries from employees and managers in a professional and confidential manner.
- Work closely with HR, Finance and operational teams to ensure payroll information is accurate and complete.
What we are looking for
- At least two years' experience processing payrolls across varying pay frequencies.
- End-to-end payroll experience within a busy or high-volume environment.
- Experience using IRIS Payroll Professional or a comparable payroll system.
- Experience using Staffology or a similar HR and Time & Attendance system.
- Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and statutory payments.
- Experience administering workplace pensions and Auto Enrolment.
- Strong Excel skills, including formulas, lookups and data manipulation.
- Excellent accuracy, organisation and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Desirable experience: SAP or another ERP system.
- Payroll reporting and reconciliations.
- A CIPP qualification, or currently working towards one.
- Payroll experience within manufacturing, engineering, marine, industrial or unionised environments.
