Join us, be part of more. We're so much more than an energy company. We're a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn't rely on fossil fuels whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That's why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.
About your team: At British Gas, our mission is to sell it and mend it. We've been powering the UK's homes and businesses for over 200 years - but supplying energy is just part of what we do. We're making the UK greener and more energy efficient, getting closer to Net Zero. By using clever tech like thermostats, heat pumps, solar panels and EV chargers, we're making it cheaper and easier for our customers to reduce their carbon-footprint.
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Social Media Manager to join our team! You will work closely with our PR and Social Director to create content for the social channels for British Gas and Hive. The role is responsible for creating and curating high-impact, culturally relevant social media engagement for our brands, translating strategy into compelling, platform first content that resonates with our audience and aligns with our brand values. The role exists to drive measurable engagement and brand relevance by orchestrating a modern content model that combines in house expertise, on the ground capture, and external specialist partners.
Location - In this role you will be working on a hybrid basis from our Windsor office (until December 2026) and Reading office (from December 2026) as needed. We usually work from our London office one day a week, and you'll also need to be available to travel for shoots across the UK from time to time.
About your role:
- Develop and execute social media content that drives engagement, relevance and brand visibility across priority platforms, aligned to wider brand and PR objectives.
- Create and curate high performing, platform first content (video, imagery, copy) that reflects the shift towards authentic, real-world storytelling, including working directly with colleagues, engineers and frontline teams.
- Work with PR and Social Director to commission and manage external agencies, contractors and specialist creators to deliver content at pace and scale, ensuring quality, brand alignment and efficient delivery.
- Identify, capture and amplify real customer and colleague stories, including user generated and 'in the field' content, to build trust and authenticity.
- Monitor social channels and cultural trends, responding quickly and appropriately to drive relevance and participation in real-time conversations.
- Track and analyse performance metrics, using insight to continuously optimise content, formats and channels through a test-and-learn approach.
- Collaborate with internal teams (PR, Brand, Customer Value, Operations) to ensure social activity reflects business priorities and supports reputation and customer outcomes.
- Contribute to campaign delivery by supporting the rollout of integrated marketing activity across social platforms, ensuring consistency and impact.
Here's what we're looking for:
- Significant hands-on experience managing social media accounts for a consumer-facing brand, with clear ownership of content delivery and channel performance (in house or agency).
- Proven track record of personally creating social first video content (e.g. TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts), including filming and editing with relevant tools.
- Demonstrable experience capturing content in real world environments (e.g. on location, with customers, colleagues or frontline teams), beyond studio or centrally produced campaigns.
- Evidence of managing and directing external partners (agencies, freelancers, or content creators) to deliver high-quality outputs - including briefing, feedback and quality control.
- Strong working knowledge of major social platforms (Meta, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn), with examples of how content has been adapted to suit different platforms and audiences.
- Experience using social analytics tools to track performance and make data led improvements to content and engagement (e.g. adjusting formats, timing, or messaging based on results).
- Portfolio of recent work required - applicants must provide examples of content they have personally created and delivered, with clear indication of their role in production.
- Ability to operate independently at pace, managing multiple content streams and responding to real time opportunities without heavy oversight.
Why should you apply? We're not a perfect place - but we're a people place. Our priority is supporting all of the different realities our people face. Life is about so much more than work. We get it. That's why we've designed our total rewards to give you the flexibility to choose what you need, when you need it, making sure that you and your family are supported not only financially, but physically and emotionally too.
If you're full of energy, fired up about sustainability, and ready to craft not only a better tomorrow, but a better you, then come and find your purpose in a team where your voice matters, your growth is non-negotiable, and your ambitions are our priority.
