I am currently working with an established construction consultancy who are looking to appoint a Senior Building Surveyor to join their Building Surveying team in South East London. This is a particularly interesting opportunity for an experienced Building Surveyor with a background in Legal Disrepair, as the role will effectively act as No.2 to the Head of Legal Disrepair.
The position would suit someone who already has a strong understanding of Legal Disrepair and is looking to take the next step in their career, whilst working alongside an experienced specialist and continuing to develop their wider Building Surveying experience.
The RoleYour primary focus will be on Legal Disrepair, working closely with the Head of Legal Disrepair across a range of residential projects. You will be involved in assessing and managing disrepair matters, providing technical advice and supporting clients through the relevant processes. A strong understanding of Awaab's Law is essential, alongside demonstrable experience working within the Legal Disrepair sector.
The ideal candidate will have gained this experience within a consultancy, although candidates who have worked client side, particularly within a housing association or local authority, will also be considered. Importantly, this is not necessarily a role for someone who wants to become completely niche. The business is very open to candidates who want to maintain and develop a broader Building Surveying skill set alongside their Legal Disrepair work.
Depending on your experience and interests, there is the opportunity to gain exposure to areas including:
- Contract Administration
- Specifications and Schedules of Work
- Building Defects
- Schedules of Condition
- Project Management
- Employers Agent services
- General Building Surveying
The wider Building Surveying team covers a broad range of instructions, meaning there is flexibility to shape the role around your experience and longer term career ambitions.
The ProjectsThe work is predominantly residentially focused, with approximately 90% of the wider Building Surveying workload being within the residential sector. Projects span both the public and private sectors, providing exposure to a varied range of properties and clients.
About YouTo be considered for the role, you will need:
- A Building Surveying degree accredited by RICS.
- Demonstrable experience in Legal Disrepair.
- A strong understanding of Awaab's Law and its implications within the housing sector.
- Ideally, a professional qualification such as MRICS, MCIOB or another relevant accreditation.
- Consultancy experience is preferred, although strong client side experience will also be considered.
- A broader Building Surveying background would be advantageous, particularly if you are interested in developing beyond a purely Legal Disrepair focused position.
Location: South East London
Salary: Up to £70k depending on experience
Package: Additional benefits available
Working: Hybrid working available, typically around 3 days in the office, although this will be flexible depending on the level of site visits required.
Sector: Predominantly residential public and private sector
Specialism: Legal Disrepair with the opportunity for wider Building Surveying exposure
This is a strong opportunity for a Senior Building Surveyor with Legal Disrepair experience who wants to join an established consultancy, work closely with a specialist Head of Legal Disrepair and have the flexibility to develop a broader Building Surveying role alongside their core expertise.
