We are looking to recruit a flexible and adaptable library assistant to support various contracts, part-time, covering for 34.5 hours a week.
Based from HMP Littlehey, our Library Assistants are responsible for carrying out routine library duties such as lending, shelving, developing displays and supporting customers with diverse library and information requirements, under the direction of our Library Manager.
The role provides a support service to customers to assist with their reading choices and online services and is responsible for handling queries, signposting appropriately and providing guidance and direction to enable customers to locate the required information. The role also contributes to outreach library services, events and programmes.
You will plan and deliver a range of library-based enrichment sessions and events, including reading groups, book clubs, creative activities, family reading initiatives and external visitor sessions. Work collaboratively with colleagues, prison departments and partner organisations to promote participation and support positive prisoner outcomes through reading and engagement.
What are we looking for?
You will need to demonstrate high ethical standards, take personal accountability for everything you do, and always want to be the best. You should hold GCSE or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English and be able to demonstrate your ability to use a range of IT skills including use of internet browsers and Microsoft Office.
You will have an interest and awareness in current publishing trends, reader recommendations and titles for a variety of ability levels as well as an understanding of customer service principles and practice. Experience of working within a custodial environment and experience of creating learning resources is desirable.
