The Afrobeat is an exciting new restaurant opening in EbonyLife Place London, celebrating the bold, vibrant and soulful culinary traditions of Nigeria through elevated, thoughtfully crafted dining experiences. We are seeking a talented and committed Chef de Partie to join our London kitchen team - someone who takes pride in their craft, understands the importance of consistency and discipline, and is passionate about delivering exceptional Nigerian food.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for your assigned section, ensuring it is fully prepared, organised and ready for service.
  • Prepare and cook dishes to The Afrobeats recipes and standards, maintaining consistency across taste, texture, portioning and presentation.
  • Master the dishes and techniques relevant to your section and develop a strong understanding of the wider menu.
  • Complete all preparation required for service accurately and efficiently, following prep lists and schedules set by the Head Chef.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation and food hygiene throughout preparation and service.
  • Work closely with the Head Chef and other members of the brigade to ensure smooth and efficient service.
  • Communicate clearly with the kitchen team regarding preparation, stock levels, service requirements and any issues affecting your section.
  • Monitor the quality and freshness of ingredients used on your section and report shortages, wastage or quality concerns promptly.
  • Follow recipes, specifications and portion controls carefully to ensure consistency and minimise waste.
  • Maintain a disciplined, respectful and collaborative kitchen environment that reflects the standards and culture of The Afrobeat.
  • Support other sections and the wider kitchen team during busy periods, recognising that the success of service is a shared responsibility.
  • Follow all food safety, hygiene, health and safety and kitchen procedures at all times.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of kitchen operations by identifying practical ways to improve preparation, efficiency, quality and consistency.

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience as a Chef de Partie or in a strong Commis Chef role within a quality-led restaurant, hotel or professional kitchen.
  • A genuine passion for food and a strong desire to develop your culinary skills.
  • An interest in and appreciation for Nigerian cuisine, ingredients and flavours.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn ingredients and techniques associated with Nigerian cooking, including crayfish, iru (locust beans), ogiri, uziza leaf, palm oil and scotch bonnet.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly around taste, texture, presentation and consistency.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your section effectively during busy services.
  • A strong team player who understands the importance of communication, discipline and supporting the wider brigade.
  • A positive and professional attitude, with pride in your work and a genuine commitment to delivering an exceptional guest experience.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and other hours required by the operation.

Desirable (Not Essential):

  • Professional experience cooking Nigerian or West African cuisine.
  • Experience working with high-volume or demanding service environments.
