We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Safety & Resilience Officer to support Waste & Recycling Services on a 3-month temporary contract. This is a hands-on role where you'll ensure health and safety compliance across frontline waste operations, promoting a strong safety culture while supporting operational resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation, including COSHH and RIDDOR.
- Develop and review risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work, and operational procedures.
- Carry out depot, vehicle, and site inspections, audits, and ride-alongs with collection crews.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, complaints, and near misses, including CCTV reviews.
- Deliver toolbox talks and support staff training and competency.
- Monitor vehicle, equipment, contractor, and agency worker safety compliance.
- Support emergency planning, wellbeing initiatives, and continuous service improvement.
- Produce reports, analyse safety data, and provide practical recommendations.
About You
- Essential: Experience in a health and safety role within a high-risk operational environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
- Experience undertaking risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
- Desirable: Experience in waste management, environmental services, or local government.
- Experience using CCTV for investigations and compliance monitoring.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, with the ability to travel across Rugby.
