About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Interim Finance Director to join a well-established organisation on a fixed-term basis for up to five months. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will provide financial leadership across the organisation, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, Board and Finance Committee. This is a varied, hands-on position where you will play a key role in driving financial strategy, strengthening governance, improving financial performance and supporting the organisation's long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the trusted financial adviser to the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership Team and Board.
  • Lead the organisation's financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning.
  • Provide meaningful financial analysis, modelling and insight to support strategic decision making.
  • Produce accurate monthly management accounts, forecasting, KPI reporting and variance analysis.
  • Strengthen financial controls, governance and finance processes across the organisation.
  • Lead the preparation of statutory accounts and manage the annual external audit process.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, financial and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee risk management frameworks and support organisational resilience.
  • Maximise the use of financial systems and technology to improve efficiency and reporting.
  • Manage relationships with external organisations, including auditors, HMRC, insurers and professional advisers.
  • Lead, develop and support the Finance Team.
  • Work collaboratively with departmental managers, providing financial guidance to support projects and operational performance.
  • Deputise for the Chief Executive when required.

Skills & Experience

  • A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in a senior finance leadership position.
  • Strong commercial, operational and strategic financial management skills.
  • Proven experience of budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and management information.
  • Experience improving financial controls, governance and finance processes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism and credibility.
  • Experience within a not-for-profit organisation and knowledge of charity accounting principles would be advantageous but is not essential.
