This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Datacoms Technician to join a specialist engineering team supporting advanced satellite communications, networking and IT infrastructure solutions across the maritime, defence and enterprise sectors. The role involves designing, building, commissioning and supporting customer networks, troubleshooting complex technical issues and contributing to the development of innovative communications solutions.
Typically, this person will be responsible for:
- Supporting the delivery of customer networking and communications projects from design through to installation and commissioning.
- Diagnosing and resolving complex networking and communications faults.
- Building, configuring, testing and deploying customer network solutions.
- Supporting satellite communications, enterprise networking and remote connectivity solutions.
- Producing and maintaining technical documentation for projects and customer solutions.
- Assisting with the evaluation and testing of new products, software and technologies.
- Providing technical support for routing, switching, firewall and network infrastructure.
- Supporting VoIP, virtualisation, email, web filtering and high-availability systems.
- Travelling to customer sites when required to carry out surveys, installations and network configuration.
- Working closely with internal engineering teams, customers and suppliers to deliver projects successfully.
- Participating in engineering support and on-call rotas when required.
- Keeping up to date with emerging networking, communications and IT technologies.

Essential:
- Degree, HND or HNC in IT, Electronics, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
- Experience with Routing, Switching and Layer 7 Firewalls.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex networking faults.
- Experience with modern satellite communications and/or IT systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Flexible approach with willingness to travel at short notice.
Desirable:
- Cisco and/or Microsoft certifications.
- Project planning and delivery experience.
- Linux and Windows Server administration experience.
- Knowledge of VoIP and Asterisk platforms.
- Programming experience (Perl or Bash).
- Hardware and software systems design and development experience.
