We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Architect to take ownership of the design, evolution and support of our clients' on-premises infrastructure estate, which underpins both internal business systems and public-facing services. This is a hands-on role, offering the opportunity to influence technology direction, shape infrastructure strategy, and ensure their platforms remain resilient, secure and fit for the future.

Working within a team of infrastructure specialists and engineers, you will help drive the full lifecycle of infrastructure solutions, from architectural design through to implementation, operation and eventual decommissioning. You will act as a technical specialist, trusted advisor and escalation point, while building strong relationships with suppliers and stakeholders to ensure services are delivered in line with business requirements, industry best practice and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and act as a senior escalation point for infrastructure-related matters.
  • Contribute to governance forums and help shape IT infrastructure strategy and roadmap decisions.
  • Promote architectural standards, best practices and technical governance across infrastructure and wider technology teams.
  • Champion emerging technologies and identify opportunities for innovation and service improvement.
  • Mentor, coach and develop infrastructure engineers and technical specialists.
  • Develop implementation strategies that align business objectives with technical standards, policies and architecture principles.
  • Collaborate with Technical Architects and Delivery Teams to transition architectural designs into operational services.
  • Provide expert guidance and hands-on support where required to both project and operational teams.
  • Support the ongoing development and management of laboratory, facilities and scientific equipment networks.
  • Manage and maintain effective supplier relationships, ensuring services meet contractual, operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the lifecycle management of infrastructure solutions from design through to retirement.
About You

You will be an experienced infrastructure professional with a strong background in enterprise-scale datacentre technologies and on-premises environments. You will combine strategic thinking with practical technical expertise and have the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Significant experience designing, deploying and supporting enterprise on-premises infrastructure solutions.
  • Strong expertise in HPE enterprise infrastructure platforms, including hardware design, deployment and management.
  • Experience administering and supporting multiple operating systems, including: Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu Linux, HP-UX, Solaris.
  • Strong understanding of internet technologies, infrastructure services and industry best practices.
  • Good knowledge of information security principles and security controls within enterprise infrastructure solutions.
  • Experience translating architectural designs into operational and supportable services.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance across multidisciplinary teams.
