An established contractor is looking for an experienced Design Manager to join their team on a major water infrastructure project in the Portsmouth.
This is a key role responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of design packages across a complex, multi-disciplinary project, working through planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning stages.
Responsibilities of Design Manager:
Understand client requirements and review the suitability of proposed solutions given site constraints
Review design submissions before issuing to the client and coordinate responses to client comments in a timely manner
Lead and review mechanical design, specifications, equipment orders, and schedules
Manage the delivery of design projects within a BIM environment
Conduct site asset surveys at scoping and commissioning/handover stages
Liaise with operations, maintenance staff, and stakeholders throughout design and commissioning stages
Attend design and progress meetings, tender handover, and pre-start meetings
Review and approve design consultant applications for payment
Ensure compliance with current industry standards and manage risk and commercial performance effectively
Ensure timely management of both temporary and permanent design to meet project requirements
Essential Requirements for Design Manager:
Degree or HND in a relevant engineering discipline
Minimum 3 years' post-graduate experience within the water or wastewater industry
Strong knowledge of mechanical specifications, system design, and construction techniques
Commercial awareness including NEC3, NEC4, and JCT contracts
Knowledge of CDM regulations and health, safety, and environmental legislation
Understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems
Awareness of DSEAR and HAZOP requirements
Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project or Primavera
Full UK driving licence
IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
