KierBAM are a Joint Venture (JV) partnership between Kier and BAM UK & Ireland. BAM UK & Ireland's infrastructure segment is currently delivering the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Plymouth and we are seeking an experienced Mechanical Package Manager who will manage the internal fit out of the building that is under construction, specifically with regard to the interface with M & E and will be involved in the planning of the works prior to delivering.
Due to the site being a high-security military naval base, additional security checks will be required; a BPSS level of security clearance is necessary. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to process. Only candidates holding EU, NATO, 5 Eyes, or MISWG member passports and who have been UK residents for the last 5 years can be considered for this role.
Your team Location: Devonport Dockyard, Plymouth
Contract: Permanent, 42.5 hours a week
Making Possible In this role, you will be working in a live MOD facility. Your day-to-day tasks will include:
- Responsible for the organisation and direction of construction and engineering personnel.
- Responsible for the coordination of activities relating to design, construction, contracts management and engineering including liaison with sub-contractors for all mechanical packages.
- Ensure all works are procured, planned and carried out safely in accordance with project requirements and UK law.
- Review designs with the design teams and client to ensure they are optimised for efficient and safe construction, fully compliant with standards and contract requirements.
- Manage robust change control and manage risk and opportunity.
- As required, provide accurate and timely information to the project management team for both site progress and financial reporting.
- Manage the successful completion of the project/area under control in line with agreed quality and commercial plans to achieve targets within agreed timescales and cost constraints.
- Ensure the design and installation meets internal and client specifications and statutory requirements as a minimum.
- Provide leadership for the project team members within your area of control, setting clear expectations, offering guidance and feedback to maximise the performance of the team and ensure objectives are met, managing performance accordingly.
- Contribute to the identification of projects risks and opportunities, supporting project team members, providing suggestions, taking responsibility for the mitigation or enhancement of those within your area of control.
- Understand relevant budgets, commercial priorities and their implications, in relation to job role.
- Ability to make sound decisions, based on clear criteria and facts.
- Manages own workload in line with project goals and priorities.
- Keep accurate project records.
- QHSE Management with support from QHSE team.
- Specification and Procurement of Project Supply Chain.
- Have a good understanding of Construction Design Management.
- Programme & Progress Management including short term planning updates and 6 week look ahead, Aphex is the project used software.
- Project Commercial Awareness. NEC4 experience is beneficial.
- Authoring, reviewing and progressive assurance of ITPs, RAMS, MAR & Life time quality records.
- Direct liaison with document control team to ensure the delivery teams are working in line with the latest revision of documents and follow project processes and procedures. ProjectWise experience would be beneficial.
- CEMAR experience would be beneficial but not essential.
- Management of interdisciplinary interfaces between all parties including client, subcontractor and internal teams.

- Essential:
- Technical knowledge of all phases of construction engineering relating to a multi-discipline in a single area.
- Has knowledge of construction activities as they relate to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.
- Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook and the Client Core Processes as they relate to area of responsibility.
- Knowledge of project-specific environmental compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of the use of subcontracts; knowledge of the contractor/subcontractors responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
- Prior experience supervising and administering contractors using the NEC contract.
- Excellent record keeping of progress, resources and materials.
- Management of quality assurance documentation and handover packages.
- Desirable:
- Academic Qualifications HNC in Mechanical engineering or NVQ Level 6 diploma in Mechanical engineering Desirable but not essential.
- SMSTS.
- Experience of similar role desirable, preferred in relevant sector (i.e Nuclear and Defence).
- CSCS Professionally qualified person (White Card) / Black Card (Managers Card).
- Professional Membership Advantageous but not essential.
