Senior Mechanical Design Engineer High-Speed Rotating Systems Oxford Permanent £Competitive We're seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of advanced microturbine propulsion systems.

This is a hands-on role focused on the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of high-performance rotating machinery.

You'll take ownership of mechanical components and assemblies, working closely with manufacturing and test teams to deliver robust, manufacturable designs.

As a senior member of the team, you'll also provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities * Design and develop components and assemblies using Solid Works. * Produce manufacturing, assembly, and inspection drawings, including GD&T. * Lead mechanical packaging and layout activities. * Drive **Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)**, particularly for rotating components. * Support prototype builds, testing, root-cause investigations, and design iteration. * Conduct design reviews and contribute to engineering best practice. * Mentor and support less experienced engineers.

About You * Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar. * Strong mechanical design experience with complex products and assemblies. * Highly proficient in Solid Works (other cad packages considered) * Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and engineering documentation. * Experience applying DFMA principles to real-world products. * Comfortable working hands-on with prototypes and testing activities. * A collaborative problem solver with the confidence to lead technical workstreams.

Relevant Backgrounds We're particularly interested in engineers with experience designing: * High-speed motor-generator units (MGUs) * Electric motors and e-machines * Turbochargers and e-compressors * Precision rotating equipment * High-performance mechanical products * Jet Engine Turbine related technology Experience with shafts, bearings, rotors, housings, balancing, precision assemblies, and reliability-focused design would be highly advantageous.
