Why do we want you

Are you an experienced Health & Safety professional who enjoys developing others and helping them achieve their career goals? Phoenix Health & Safety (part of Wilmington plc) is one of the UK's leading providers of Health & Safety training and consultancy services, trusted by thousands of learners and organisations nationwide and recognised for delivering an exceptional customer experience.

As our NVQ provision continues to grow, we're looking for an NVQ Assessor to support and assess learners working towards the Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety and Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Health and Safety Leadership and Management. You'll manage your own caseload, provide expert guidance and constructive feedback, and play a key role in helping learners successfully achieve their qualifications.

If you're ready to help shape the next generation of Health & Safety professionals, we'd love to hear from you!

You'll be responsible for:

  • Assessing learners working towards the Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety and the Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Health and Safety Leadership and Management (both ProQual).
  • Managing your own portfolio of learners, providing expert guidance and support throughout their qualification journey.
  • Delivering timely, constructive feedback that helps learners stay engaged and progress towards successful completion.
  • Conducting regular progress reviews and coaching conversations to monitor development and maintain momentum.
  • Building strong relationships with learners, acting as a trusted point of contact and champion for their success.
  • Carrying out Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) activities to support compliance and maintain assessment quality standards.
  • Maintaining accurate learner records and ensuring all assessment documentation is completed to a high standard.
  • Working collaboratively with the NVQ Manager and wider team to continuously improve the learner experience.
  • Keeping up to date with developments in Health & Safety, assessment practices and awarding body requirements.

What's the Best Thing About This Role

You'll be making a real difference to someone's Health & Safety career! Every learner you support is working towards becoming a stronger Health & Safety professional, and you'll play a key role in helping them achieve that goal. This is a rewarding position where you'll combine your industry expertise with coaching and mentoring, building lasting relationships with learners and celebrating their success as they progress through their qualifications.

What's the Most Challenging Thing About This Role

As learners join and progress through their qualifications at different stages, you'll need to balance priorities, manage a varied caseload and adapt to changing demands. Success in this role comes from being organised, proactive and people-focused. You'll be supporting learners over an extended period, providing guidance, encouragement and constructive feedback to keep them motivated and moving forward. If you enjoy building strong relationships, managing your own workload and helping others overcome challenges, you'll thrive in this environment.

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A recognised assessor qualification, such as the A1 Assessor Award, Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment or Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement.
  • Proven experience in assessing learners.
  • CertIOSH status.
  • A Level 6 qualification in Health and Safety.
  • Practical, hands-on experience of health and safety management.
  • Confidence using IT systems and learning management platforms.
  • An IQA Qualification or a willingness to work towards achieving one.

We know it's not a skill, but the successful candidate must have permission to work in the role's location by the start of their employment.
