Following a series of strategic developments, the organisation is now entering a significant phase of accelerated growth and seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to bolster the growth.

This employer is based in WAKEFIELD, under 10 minutes from the M1 motorway, meaning the successful Mechanical Design Engineer will easily be able to commute from surrounding towns & cities including Leeds, Dewsbury, Pontefract, Castleford, Huddersfield, Barnsley, Sheffield and Halifax.

Key responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer will include:

  • Deliver mechanical designs from concept through to production drawings, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, business objectives, and relevant BS/ISO standards.
  • Manage project workloads, schedules, and budgets effectively to ensure successful and timely project delivery.
  • Apply commercial awareness to develop cost-effective design solutions and manage scope changes in line with company procedures.
  • Communicate project progress, risks, and technical issues clearly with engineering leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Conduct design reviews, detail checking, machinery risk assessments, and engineering calculations to ensure quality, safety, and performance.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation, databases, and traceability systems, including barcode scanning and data management processes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to implement innovative processes and deliver the most economical and advantageous design solutions.

For the Mechanical Design Engineer opportunity, we are keen to receive CVs from candidates who possess:

  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, with experience designing and developing special purpose machinery.
  • Proficient in technical problem-solving, engineering calculations, and interpreting numerical data to deliver effective solutions.
  • Experienced in multidisciplinary environments, with knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Skilled in 3D CAD design (AutoCAD essential) and able to deliver accurate, high-quality technical information within demanding project timescales.
  • Effective communicator and collaborative team player, with strong IT skills, proactive stakeholder engagement, and the ability to work independently when required.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Up to £55,000 p/a
  • Long term incentive plan
  • Overtime paid at 1x Hourly rate and 1.5x Hourly rate over 7.5 hours per week
  • Holiday Allowance: 25 Days (25 free choice + bank holidays)
  • Pension Scheme: Up to 10% (5% matched contribution)

Working Hours/Schedule:

  • 100% onsite in order to be able to effectively communicate with production and various other departments & colleagues / 37.5 Hours per week
