We are recruiting an experienced Workshop Manager to take responsibility for a busy commercial vehicle workshop in Oldbury, overseeing the maintenance and repair of a fleet consisting of vans, LCVs and HGVs. This is a fully off-the-tools management position, ideal for an experienced Workshop Manager, Workshop Controller, Foreman or senior commercial vehicle professional looking to concentrate on leadership, workshop performance and people management.
Due to the nature of the fleet, applicants will need a good technical understanding of the van, LCV and/or HGV industries, with previous experience working within a commercial vehicle workshop environment highly desirable.

Workshop Manager Role
As Workshop Manager, you will take responsibility for the efficient day-to-day running of the workshop, leading the technical team and ensuring vans and HGVs are maintained, repaired and returned to service efficiently.
Responsibilities will include:
- Managing the day-to-day operation of a busy van, LCV and HGV workshop
- Leading, supporting and developing a team of commercial Vehicle Technicians
- Planning and allocating workshop workloads effectively
- Coordinating servicing, maintenance, inspections, diagnostics and repairs
- Monitoring productivity, efficiency and workshop KPIs
- Managing vehicle downtime and maximising fleet availability
- Ensuring vans and HGVs are maintained to the required standards
- Ensuring appropriate vehicle maintenance and compliance procedures are followed
- Supporting Technicians with technical issues and escalating where necessary
- Monitoring jobs from initial booking through to completion
- Ensuring accurate workshop and maintenance records are maintained
- Managing workshop health and safety
- Supporting recruitment, training, performance management and development
- Liaising with internal departments, suppliers and other stakeholders
- Driving continuous improvement across workshop processes and performance
This is an off-the-tools position. Your responsibility will be managing the workshop, vehicles, workload and technical team rather than routinely carrying out repairs yourself.
Workshop Manager Requirements
For this Workshop Manager position, we are looking for someone with:
- Previous experience managing or supervising an automotive or commercial vehicle workshop
- Good knowledge of vans, LCVs and/or HGVs is required
- A strong understanding of the commercial vehicle industry
- Experience as a Workshop Manager, Workshop Controller, Workshop Foreman, Assistant Workshop Manager or similar
- Strong automotive/commercial vehicle technical knowledge
- Understanding of commercial vehicle servicing, maintenance and repair requirements
- NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or equivalent would be advantageous
- Strong people-management and leadership skills
- Experience planning and allocating Technician workloads
- Good understanding of workshop productivity, efficiency and KPIs
- Strong health and safety awareness
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Full UK driving licence
