Upperton Pharma Solutions is a Nottingham-based CDMO that specialises in the development and manufacture of pharmaceutical products, providing a complete service from early-stage feasibility to GMP clinical manufacture. Formulations cover a range of delivery routes, typically including oral (tablets & capsules), nasal and inhaled.

We are entering an exciting phase of growth with the development of our new 7,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art sterile manufacturing facility, designed and built in full alignment with the latest EU GMP Annex 1 (2023) requirements. Due to our growth, we are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Financial Controller to lead our finance function and support the continued growth of the business.

This is a key leadership role responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust financial controls, managing cash flow, and partnering with senior leaders to support strategic decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role within a growing business, working closely with senior leadership to influence strategy, improve performance and build a best-in-class finance function. Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Own and manage the monthly management accounts process, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting
  • Prepare and present financial reports, variance analysis and business performance insights to the CFO and senior leadership team
  • Monitor and assess operational and other business workflows from a financial perspective for better ROI, KPIs and efficiency
  • Lead the year-end audit process and statutory reporting requirements
  • Maintain strong financial controls, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Manage cash flow, treasury activities, VAT returns, payroll oversight, debtor collections and supplier payments
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling activities
  • Partner with Directors and department leaders to support commercial decision-making and business performance
  • Lead, develop and mentor the finance team, ensuring high levels of performance and accuracy

Essential skills and experience:

  • ACA, ACCA, ACMA, along with a degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Extensive experience in accounting and finance, management accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis at Financial Controller level
  • Proficiency in enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, financial modelling, data analytics, and reporting tools
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to manage teams and collaborate with executives
  • Sector experience desirable but not essential
  • Experience of a PE-backed or investor backed environment is desirable
