We are recruiting an experienced Payroll & Pensions Technician to join a well-established organisation during an important period of HR and payroll transformation. The organisation is implementing a new HR and payroll system, moving from iTrent to People First. As existing employees move across to support the implementation project, this role will provide essential cover within the payroll team.

Working as part of a small and experienced team, you will support the accurate and timely delivery of a monthly payroll for approximately 1,300 employees.

Key responsibilities:

  • Processing monthly payroll from end to end
  • Updating payroll records and checking employee changes
  • Reconciling payrolls and preparing payment files
  • Completing statutory submissions to HMRC
  • Administering pension schemes, including LGPS
  • Managing pension contributions, returns and employee queries
  • Supporting salary sacrifice and flexible benefit arrangements
  • Ensuring compliance with payroll and pension legislation
  • Working closely with HR and People colleagues to maintain accurate data
  • Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes and controls

About you:

You will be an experienced payroll professional who can quickly understand established processes and confidently manage a varied workload. Strong pensions knowledge is desirable, ideally including experience of LGPS or another complex pension scheme. You should also have a good understanding of payroll legislation, statutory deductions, auto-enrolment and HMRC requirements. Experience of using different payroll systems would be advantageous, although specific iTrent experience is not essential.

You will be organised, accurate and comfortable working to strict monthly deadlines, with the confidence to manage employee queries and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders.

Salary and benefits:

  • Salary up to £34,500
  • Fixed-term contract
  • 37-hour working week
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Hybrid working, typically two days per week in the office
  • 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Additional birthday leave
  • Pension scheme
  • Wider health and wellbeing benefits

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Payroll Technician, Payroll Officer or Payroll and Pensions Administrator to join a supportive team and contribute during a significant systems transformation project.
