Our client is a well-established building services company delivering mechanical and facilities solutions across a range of sectors. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Estimator to take ownership of the estimating process and play a key role in preparing accurate, competitive and profitable tenders.
Position Overview
- Manage the estimating process from initial enquiry through to tender submission.
- Analyse tender drawings, specifications and contract documentation to establish project requirements and commercial risks.
- Undertake detailed take-offs, prepare bills of quantities and build up rates for labour, plant and materials.
- Manage supply chain enquiries, obtaining and analysing competitive quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, designers and internal teams throughout the tendering process.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and value engineering to improve project value and profitability.
- Ensure cost planning and estimating accurately reflect project requirements and risk profile.
- Prepare and present completed tenders for Director approval and client submission.
- Support commercial management through valuations, variations, cost value analysis and final accounts.
- Identify and support the management of project risks and opportunities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with company procedures, QEMS and health and safety standards.
Position Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within construction or building services.
- Strong mechanical background with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Experience preparing detailed tenders, undertaking take-offs and building up rates.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Good understanding of mechanical materials, products and installation requirements.
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and work effectively to strict deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant estimating/commercial systems.
- Flexible, proactive and commercially minded approach.
