The Role
They are seeking an experienced Lead Business Central Consultant to join a growing BC practice. This is a senior, client-facing role where you'll lead workshops, shape solution design, guide customers through key decisions, and take responsibility for successful delivery from discovery through to go-live and hypercare.
You’ll work closely with Solution Architects, Developers, Project Managers, Consultants and customer stakeholders to deliver high-quality, scalable Business Central solutions aligned to customer outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Solution Design & Consultancy
- Lead discovery, requirements gathering, fit-gap and design workshops.
- Analyse business processes and identify improvement opportunities.
- Produce solution designs, functional specs, process maps and documentation.
- Recommend best-practice use of Business Central and related Microsoft technologies.
- Challenge unnecessary customisation and promote standard capability.
- Work with architects/developers to translate functional requirements into technical solutions.
- Project Delivery
- Lead full lifecycle BC implementations from initiation to go-live and hypercare.
- Configure Business Central in line with agreed requirements and designs.
- Facilitate playback, sign-off, testing and readiness sessions.
- Support governance, estimation, scope management and change control.
- Identify risks and issues early and work with the team to resolve them.
- Ensure outputs meet delivery standards and customer expectations.
- Functional Expertise
- Provide expert guidance across finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, projects/jobs and reporting.
- Advise on dimensions, posting groups, VAT, MTD, banking, approvals and operational processes.
- Support decisions around standard functionality, ISV extensions, integrations and automation.
- Data Migration, Testing & Training
- Define and support data migration strategy, mapping, cleansing and validation.
- Support configuration packages, templates and customer data readiness.
- Lead/support UAT planning, test script review and defect triage.
- Deliver training for key users and end users.
- Provide go-live readiness guidance and hands-on hypercare support.
- Existing Client Support
- Assist the Managed Service team with complex issues when required.
- Scope new functionality and act as a trusted advisor for existing clients.
- Leadership & Practice Development
- Mentor and coach BC consultants.
- Share best practice and reusable assets across the team.
- Contribute to methodology, templates, accelerators and quality standards.
- Support presales activities including discovery, demos, proposals and estimates.
- Act as a role model for company values.
Skills & Experience
- Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of Dynamics 365 Business Central configuration and functional design.
- Finance expertise: GL, AP, AR, banking, VAT, MTD, dimensions, posting groups, reporting.
- Operational expertise: sales, purchasing, inventory, items, approvals, projects/jobs.
- Full lifecycle delivery experience: discovery – design – configuration – testing – training – migration – go-live – hypercare.
- Data migration experience: mapping, cleansing, validation, templates, reconciliation.
- Awareness of integrations with Microsoft 365, D365 Sales, Power Platform, Azure and ISVs.
- Strong documentation skills (functional specs, process docs, training materials).
- Excellent consultancy skills: stakeholder management, workshops, communication.
- Essential Experience
- Proven BC/NAV consulting experience within a Microsoft Consultancy.
- Multiple full lifecycle ERP implementations.
- Strong finance and operational process knowledge.
- Experience leading workshops and managing senior stakeholders.
- Ability to translate business requirements into robust BC solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Commercial awareness and ability to work within scope, budget and timelines.
- Desirable
- Microsoft BC certifications.
- Experience in a Microsoft Partner environment.
- Knowledge of Power Platform, Copilot and AI-enabled automation.
- Experience integrating BC with D365 Sales or other systems.
- Exposure to AL development and extensions.
- Industry experience: distribution, professional services, non-profit, field service.
