A long-established, well-respected roofing and refurbishment contractor in Milton Keynes is looking to recruit an Estimator to join its growing refurbishment division. Known for delivering high-quality pitched and flat roofing schemes and now expanding into solar installations, the business offers stability, strong technical capability and long-term progression. Assistant and experienced Estimators are invited to apply.
Role Overview
You will prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for refurbishment roofing projects, working closely with clients, suppliers and internal teams. Reporting to the Refurbishment Operations Manager, you will support tender negotiations, ensure clarity of scope and produce high-quality submissions that meet commercial and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Estimating & Tendering
- Produce accurate cost estimates for pitched and flat roofing projects
- Review tender documents and define project scope
- Attend site visits to gather technical information
- Prepare BOQs, schedules of rates and material take-offs
- Follow up on tenders to build relationships and identify future opportunities
- Support solar estimating when required
- Client & Supplier Engagement
- Obtain competitive pricing from subcontractors, suppliers and manufacturers
- Negotiate costs to ensure accurate and competitive tenders
- Provide technical advice on roofing systems and materials
- Build strong client relationships
- Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of pitched and flat roofing systems
- Awareness of new roofing technologies and industry best practice
- Understanding of frameworks, CIF funding and portal submissions
- Knowledge of PAS2030 and solar installations is an advantage
- Team Collaboration
- Work with Operations Managers to deliver accurate tenders on time
- Support junior team members where required
- Produce tenders aligned with profit targets and internal standards
- Use estimating software (Swiftest preferred) and ERP systems
- Project Support
- Provide updated cost information to Project and Contracts Managers
- Review post-tender results to improve future estimating performance
Key Skills & Experience
- Qualifications
- Roofing or construction qualification (NVQ, HNC, HND preferred)
- CSCS card beneficial
- Experience
- Ideally 5+ years roofing estimating experience
- Strong refurbishment, pitched and flat roofing background
- Solar estimating experience highly advantageous
- ERP system experience beneficial

- Strong technical understanding of roofing systems and materials
- Confident negotiation skills
- Proficient in estimating software (Swiftest preferred)
