We require a Junior Estimator who will assist in the review of customer enquiries, technical drawings and specifications to support the preparation of quotations and tender submissions. Working closely with experienced estimators, production teams and supply chain partners. The role will develop knowledge of fabrication methods, material requirements, labour estimation and commercial costing, whilst ensuring estimates are prepared accurately and in line with customer requirements and company procedures.

Key Tasks

  • Assist with the review of customer enquiries, drawings, specifications and scope of work documents.
  • Interpret engineering and fabrication drawings, bills of materials and technical specifications.
  • Support the preparation of cost estimates for materials, labour, subcontract services, plant and equipment.
  • Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Assist with the compilation of tender documentation and quotation packages.
  • Maintain estimating records, cost databases and quotation registers.
  • Liaise with production, engineering, planning and procurement teams to obtain information required for estimates.
  • Support the development of standard labour rates, production assumptions and costing models.
  • Assist in identifying commercial and technical risks within tender enquiries.
  • Attend internal handover meetings to support the transition of awarded projects to operational teams.
  • Monitor awarded projects to compare actual costs against estimated costs and identify lessons learned.
  • Develop an understanding of fabrication, welding, machining and assembly processes used within the business.
  • Participate in and undertake shop floor efficiency studies and provide feedback.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, quality requirements and customer specifications.

Role Requirements

  • HNC/HND (or qualification) in Engineering, Manufacturing, Construction.
  • Experience within an engineering, fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of steel fabrication and welding.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing (Training Provided).
