An established and growing engineering business is looking for a Mechanical Design Draughtsman to join its project engineering team. This is a predominantly 2D AutoCAD role, with some 3D CAD work on more complex systems, layouts and interfaces.
You will produce drawings that progress from initial engineering requirements through to fabrication, installation and commissioning, giving you the opportunity to see your designs become real-world engineering solutions.
Hours and Benefits
- £42,000 - £47,000
- 8:30am - 5:00pm (flexibility can be given), with an earlier finish on Fridays
- 25 days annual leave + 8 statutory holidays

Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in engineering, draughting or a drawing office environment
- Strong 2D AutoCAD skills, ideally producing general arrangement, layout and fabrication drawings
- Experience with 3D CAD, such as SolidWorks, Inventor or similar
- Understanding of fabrication, manufacturing and practical installation requirements
- Ability to produce accurate, coordinated drawings suitable for manufacture, installation and commissioning
- Strong attention to detail, with the confidence to identify design issues, clashes or ambiguities and raise them early
- HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant technical qualification, or equivalent practical experience
The Mechanical Design Draughtsman will take ownership of the accuracy and quality of your drawings, working closely with Project Engineers and Project Managers to resolve technical queries and develop practical solutions. The ability to manage multiple projects and communicate effectively with colleagues, customers and suppliers is important.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed 2D AutoCAD general arrangement, layout and fabrication drawings
- Develop 3D CAD models for more complex systems, layouts and interfaces
- Interpret customer requirements, engineering information and design intent
- Work closely with Project Engineers and Project Managers to develop practical, buildable solutions
- Attend site surveys and measurement activities where required
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, subcontractors and commissioning engineers to resolve drawing and installation requirements
- Manage drawing revisions, registers and documentation while ensuring work is delivered accurately and on time
