The Marazion Hotel is a family-owned, AA Four-Star Gold accredited hotel with 11 rooms and a two-bedroom self-catering apartment, and home to The Cutty Sark Restaurant and Bar. The hotel sits in the heart of Marazion, overlooking Mounts Bay and just metres from St Michaels Mount. We are looking for an experienced, hands-on General Manager to lead and help develop this established, independent hospitality business.

Ideally, you will be available to join us in September or October 2026, although we can be flexible for the right person. There will be the opportunity for an in-depth handover with our current GM, who is leaving after 35 years in hospitality to pursue a new career in education, and you will benefit from the experience of the long-standing team already in place.

This is not a role for someone who wants to manage mainly from behind a desk. You will be present across the business, regularly work alongside the team as part of the way you lead, and be ready to step in to support wherever needed.

Salary and benefits

Salary is £43,000, plus a performance-related bonus. The package includes 28 days annual leave including bank holidays, workplace pension, share of tips, staff discount, free parking, and simple meals while working.

The role

Overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the hotel, restaurant, bar, and beer garden.
Act as a visible host, engaging with guests across the hotel, restaurant and bar.
Lead and manage the team, including recruitment, rotas, payroll, performance management, training and development.
Ensure front of house, kitchen, bar, and housekeeping work smoothly together.
Monitor revenue, wages, food and beverage margins and overall operational performance, ensuring effective cost control and commercially sound day-to-day decisions.
Maintain consistently high standards of guest service, hospitality, cleanliness, and presentation.
Manage bookings, functions and guest correspondence, including queries, feedback and reviews, and deal fairly and professionally with any issues or complaints that arise.
Oversee stock control, purchasing, and supplier relationships,
Ensure the business meets its responsibilities in relation to Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Food Safety, licensing, and other relevant compliance.
Identify opportunities to increase direct hotel bookings, restaurant reservations and year-round trade, and work with the owners and team on events, offers and partnerships.

What were looking for

You will have strong senior hospitality management experience, including experience of hotel operations and significant food and beverage experience. A Personal Licence would be advantageous.

A supportive, approachable and hands-on leadership style, with the confidence to make difficult decisions when needed.

A solid understanding of hotel and food and beverage financial performance, with experience of budgets, revenue, payroll, costs, and profitability.

A strong eye for detail, pride in maintaining high standards, and a real commitment to excellent hospitality and guest service.

The ability to develop people, manage performance, and recognise potential within a team.

Good judgement, strong organisational skills, and the ability to remain calm when things are busy or do not go to plan.

An understanding of food-led hospitality and how to develop an independent business without losing what makes it distinctive.

The family owners are part of the local community and frequent visitors to the business but are not looking to manage the day-to-day operation themselves. The General Manager will be trusted to run the business and lead the team, while working collaboratively with the owners on its longer-term direction.

Practical information

For candidates relocating to Cornwall, reasonably priced accommodation may be available for an initial period. We would also be open to applications from management couples where one partner is an experienced chef, with the possibility of roles for both within the business.

Working hours will be shaped around the needs of the business. This is a hands-on hospitality role and will include evenings and weekends. Within that, you will organise your own working pattern sensibly around the operation and the management team in place.
