Your Recruitment Coach are working with an established engineering business in Manchester, specialising in the repair, refurbishment and reverse engineering of industrial pumps and rotating equipment. We are looking for an experienced Manual Machinist / Centre Lathe Turner to join their busy engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served machinist who enjoys precision machining and working on a variety of interesting components within a specialist engineering environment.

The Role

  • Machining components used within industrial water, chemical and vacuum pumps.
  • Supporting the wider repair and refurbishment of rotating equipment.
  • Machining pump components including shafts, impellers, bushes and other precision parts.
  • Machining accurately from engineering drawings and samples.
  • Carrying out remedial and reverse engineering work.
  • Salvaging bushes and undertaking shaft reclamation.
  • Working to close engineering tolerances.
  • Recording dimensions and completing relevant documentation.
  • Working as part of a busy machining and engineering team.
  • Supporting assembly work where required.
  • Operating a range of conventional machining equipment.
  • Working standard hours with overtime available when required.

What are we looking for?

  • Time-Served Manual Machinists / Centre Lathe Turners with strong conventional machining experience.
  • CGLI Part 3, ONC or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Strong experience operating Centre Lathes.
  • Working knowledge of boring, milling, slotting and radial arm drilling.
  • Strong engineering knowledge and practical machining skills.
  • Experience working to close tolerances.
  • Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings and samples.
  • Experience with remedial or reverse engineering would be advantageous.
  • Ability to carry out basic assembly work when required.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with a genuine can-do attitude who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work. You will be organised, reliable and able to work to agreed timescales within a busy engineering environment. Due to the nature of the role, you should be comfortable with some manual handling, although mechanical aids are available where appropriate.

What's on offer?

  • £34,500 - £40,600 per annum
  • Overtime paid at time and a half and double time
  • 39-hour working week
  • Monday-Thursday: 8:00am-4:30pm
  • Friday: 8:00am-3:30pm
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Company pension
