We are seeking an Electronics Design Engineer who will be responsible for the design and development of electronics hardware, taking products from functional requirements through design, prototyping, testing and verification. This is a hands-on engineering role where you will work closely with Project Managers, customers, suppliers and fellow engineers to develop innovative electronics solutions and enhance existing products.
You will have the opportunity to work across analogue, digital and embedded electronics, with exposure to both hardware and firmware development. You'll also have the opportunity to mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers, helping to build capability within the wider engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:- Translating high-level product requirements into detailed electronics architectures and technical requirements.
- Designing and developing electronics hardware, including simulation, schematic capture, PCB layout and BOM generation.
- Building and testing prototypes and carrying out functional verification.
- Supporting and enhancing existing products, including investigating and resolving technical issues.
- Working collaboratively with Project Managers, engineers and other stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Liaising with customers and suppliers where required to support technical development and problem solving.
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
- Working in accordance with established engineering development processes, procedures and specifications.
- Producing high-quality hardware technical documentation and maintaining controlled electronics drawings and Bills of Materials.
- Supporting compliance with relevant EMC and electrical safety standards.
- Contributing to continuous improvement of engineering processes and product performance.
- Where required, contributing to firmware development, enhancement and bug fixing.
- Producing firmware documentation and supporting version/repository control where applicable.
- Maintaining compliance with company quality, environmental, health and safety and ISO requirements.
We are looking for an experienced electronics engineer who enjoys getting involved in both the design and practical development of hardware. You'll ideally bring:
- A minimum degree in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven postgraduate industrial experience in a relevant electronics engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of analogue, digital and embedded electronics.
- Experience designing microcontroller-controlled systems.
- Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Strong hands-on electronics skills, including soldering and the use of electronic laboratory test equipment.
- Experience with electronics design for EMC and safety compliance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good organisation and attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of engineering tasks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
It would be advantageous if you also have experience with:
- Embedded firmware development.
- Microcontroller programming.
- Integrated Development Environments (IDEs).
- Firmware and hardware Version Control Systems (VCS).
- Firmware documentation and repository management.
- Working across both hardware and firmware development.
If you're an experienced Electronics Engineer looking for a role where you can combine hands-on hardware design, technical problem solving and innovative product development, we'd love to hear from you.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Work on innovative solid-state and ultrafast laser technologies.
- Take ownership of electronics designs from concept through prototype and verification.
- Work across analogue, digital and embedded electronics.
- Collaborate with experienced engineers, customers and technology partners.
- Develop your technical expertise within a global technology organisation.
- Mentor and support the development of other engineers.
- Contribute to products where reliability, precision and performance really matter.
